A group of elite Mars scientists searches for extraterrestrial life. They launch several ill-fated Mars missions, travel to Antarctica, and explore the furthest reaches of Earth's oceans in pursuit of cosmic meaning. Passionate, curious, and committed, they dream above all of putting a man on Mars -- a quest that has fascinated humankind for more than half a century.
Science fiction? Science fact. Laurence Bergreen is an acclaimed writer and NASA insider who set out to understand the scientists who are reaching for Mars -- the most charismatic, diverse group of space explorers since the astronauts portrayed in Tom Wolfe's The Right Stuff.
Public interest in life on Mars is growing; disappointment with recent failed NASA Mars missions is widespread. People want to know the inside story, and Bergreen tells it well.
